Max Stewart is a Los Angeles-based photographer and filmmaker exploring the cinematic in the everyday.
Through atmospheric portraits and street photography, Max captures the kind of moments you might miss if you weren’t paying attention — sun-bleached corners, strangers in passing, quiet confrontations with light and shadow.
His work is rooted in mood and presence, often blending documentary instincts with a reflective, almost spiritual tone. Whether photographing a protest, a beach, or a side street at golden hour, his images feel like film stills: intimate, grounded, and emotionally alive.
Photography began as a personal form of recovery — a way of seeing the world more clearly and honestly. Over time, it’s grown into a visual practice focused on storytelling, observation, and the strange poetry of real life.
Under the name Unfocused Photo Works, Max is currently building a portfolio of print work, client portraiture, and short-form visual essays across LA.
